I grew up in Taiwan, and began to learn how to play the piano at the age of 6. I moved to the USA as a teenager, after obtaining an undergraduate scholarship to the Julliard School in New York. I eventually graduated from the Manhattan School of music in 1989 with a Batchelor’s degree.
I gained my Masters qualification in Manhattan and continued with postgraduate performance studies in the UK, at the Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
I performed for a number of years at venues such as the Lincoln Center in New York, London South Bank (Queen Elizabeth Hall and Purcell Room) and the Taiwan National Concert Hall. By invitation, I also held intimate concerts and master-classes at various other venues around the UK, Austria, Germany and Taiwan.
With the birth of the first of my three children I realised that the life of an international concert pianist was not compatible with the responsibilities of being a parent, and began to focus on teaching. Now remarried, I have added three step-children to my repertoire!
Teaching has been a revelation to me, meeting such a wide variety of individuals of all ages. I have got to know all of my students musically and personally, allowing me to use the full range of my musical skills to train others in a way that suits their own style and ability. These days, my satisfaction comes from the achievements of my students, rather than the applause of the audience.
